“Lots of ways to help people. Sometimes heal patients; sometimes execute dangerous people. Either way helps.”

Mordin is a Salarian scientist and former member of the Salarian Special Tasks Group, where he played active roles in many reconnaissance missions and helped modify the genophage. He believes that "the ends justifies the means", although he disapproves of taking lives without good cause.

[edit] Background

Mordin Solus was born in the 2150's, and quickly became a doctor, scientist and geneticist. He is a former member of the Salarian Special Tasks Group. His last mission before retirement involved studying the Krogan genophage.

The mission initially was to study the effects of the genophage on the growth of the Krogan population. This allowed the Salarians to quickly formulate pre-emptive strategies in the event that the Krogan were able to regain their former numbers. However, Mordin's mission changed drastically when they discovered that the Krogan were naturally overcoming the genophage. It was decided that the STG team would create a modified version of the genophage that would limit Krogan reproduction to a level that allowed the Krogan to survive without their numbers reaching too high. Mordin would fondly remember these days; beginning his mornings sharing scientific theories over breakfast, devoting his day to his research and working with people he highly respected and admired. After the completion of their mission, the team separated, going their separate ways. Mordin found that the ethics of the mission was too disturbing, despite heavily defending decision. Eventually he turned to religion to help his pain. However, he found himself having a crisis of faith, due to the conflicting nature of religion, leaving him feeling empty and his worries unresolved.

[edit] Dossier

After retiring from the STG, Mordin moved to Omega where he built a clinic, believing it easier to just heal people. He was able to pull strings in the STG to acquire some Mechs to defend his clinic. His military training allowed him to deal with problems himself, easily killing any Blue Suns or Vorcha that tried to intimidate him. The Blue Suns eventually learned to stay away from him. Mordin's reputation on Omega grew, to the point where even Aria T'Loak admired him for methods. Mordin would eventually return to Tuchanka to assess the effectiveness of the modified genophage. Although others could have done it for him, Mordin felt he should witness the destruction he caused, believing it cowardly to shy away.

Shepard first encounters Mordin in his clinic on Omega. He is working on a cure for a biologically engineered plague that has been released upon the station. Mordin is able to identify that the plague is of Collector origin. The plague killed most of the Blue Suns that controlled the area, allowing the Vorcha to push into their territory. The Vorcha were working for the Collectors, distributing the plague in exchange for the technology to strengthen them and raise their quality of life. After the Vorcha turned off the environmental systems, Mordin gives Shepard the cure and asks him to reactivate the environmental systems. He hands Shepard a M-6 Carnifex Hand Cannon "in good faith." Mordin also asks that he look for his assistant Daniel who ventured into Vorcha territory looking for plague victims.

After releasing the cure into the environmental systems, Mordin joins Shepard, leaving the clinic in the hands of Daniel or another character. Mordin runs the tech labs and oversees all research projects to improve weapons, armor and abilities using resources Shepard has collected. Mordin also spends time investigating Collector biology and analysing Collector technology. Mordin will also provide Shepard with medical advice if he pursues a romance with another squad mate. He will also tease Shepard by asking if you are attracted to him.

Once aboard the Normandy Mordin runs the tech labs, overseeing research projects to improve weapons, armor and abilities using resources collected during the mission. He spends a lot of time investigating Collector biology as part of the mission, but can also take time to demonstrate his excellent singing voice. If Shepard is pursuing a relationship, Mordin will give medical or personal advice, or--if Shepard has no romantic interests aboard the Normandy but frequently speaks to Mordin--tease Shepard by asking if the Commander is attracted to him.
