|Voice Actor||Ali Hillis|
Liara T'Soni is an Asari Scientist and a squad mate of Commander Shepard aboard the SSV Normandy. She is the daughter of Matriarch Benezia, a powerful member of the Asari. Liara is a specialist in Prothean research and has spent the better part of her young life devoted to understanding everything about the Protheans.
After giving the Citadel Council a recording provided by Tali which proved that Saren was behind the Eden Prime, the Asari Councellor will inform you that the female voice in the recording is Matriarch Benezia. Before you leave the Citadel, Captain Anderson will mention that Benezia's daughter, Liara is located somewhere on the Artemis Tau cluster and that she could provide valuable information about her mother. You'll eventually find her on the planet Therum in an old Prothean dig-site. She has managed to trap herself behind a barrier while running from the Geth who invaded the dig-site to capture her.
After escaping the dig-site just seconds before it collapsed, Liara is brought aboard the Normandy for her own protection. She tries to prove her value to the Normandy crew by using her telepathic abilities interpret the fragmented visions that Commander Shepard picked up from the Prothean Beacon on Eden Prime, in order to discover what happened to the Prothean race and what Saren plans to do with this knowledge he received from the beacon.
Liara is 106 years old, this is still considered a child by the Asari who can live up to 1000 years old. Like most Asari, she is a powerful Biotic, but she has very little skill in weapons or armor. Her mother is a powerful Matriarch called Benezia who is a well respected member of the Asari race. She doesn't know her father but she knows she is a Pureblood, which means both her parents are Asari. This is frowned upon by many Asari who believe that they should mate with other species to improve the knowledge of their culture. They believe mating with each other means they learn nothing. Liara believes her father never kept in contact because he was ashamed of having a pureblood child.
Liara hasn't spoken to her mother in years. She finds it hard having such big expectations placed upon her because of her mother's reputation among the Asari. She tries to hide away from the rest of society and spends most of her time alone, trying to discover more about the history of the Protheans. When she finds out that her mother is working with Saren she is shocked and refuses to believe that her mother is doing it of her own free will.
If the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC is completed, Liara can become the next Shadow Broker.
Liara is a potential love interest in the main plot line, regardless of whether you play as a male or female Commander Shepard. This first evolves when Kaidan Alenko mentions to you on the Normandy that Liara is an attractive woman, to which your response can lead you down the path of courting Liara. Liara finds Commander Shephard fascinating due to his/her link to the Protheans, but also finds there is something else attractive about him/her. However, her lack of experience and naivety in human interactions make her approaches awkward and embarrassing for her. Choosing to pursue this relationship will break off any budding relationship you have formed with Ashley Williams, Commander Shephard's other potential love interest.
