Jeff "Joker" Moreau is the flight lieutenant of the SSV Normandy and the best pilot in the Alliance Navy. He's very quick to point out all the accomplishments and commendations he's earned as a pilot and doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for him because of his medical problems.

Joker was born with a rare bone disease called osteogenesis imperfecta, otherwise known as Lobstein disease. It means his bones are more brittle than most people and despite all the help from modern medicine, he still need crutches and braces to stop his legs from shattering. However, his condition did not prevent him joining the Systems Alliance when he was young. While he was in flight school, he earned the nickname "Joker" because he rarely smiled. All of his work paid off, because he eventually became better than his instructors.
